Day 325 - 330 - Catching up in Sydney
While we’re catching up with friends, and doing a couple of talks we have also been spending time doing some domestic chores as well as getting the engine heat exchangers cleaned in an acid bath, and having our TV antenna re-rigged (it stopped working a while back but we really didn’t miss it in the Kimberleys!)
One thing we have found fun is being Vice-Commodores of the Shagg Islett Cruising Yacht Club (SICYC) - it’s free to join, and everyone is a Vice Commodore! There’s no joining fee, but you must buy a burgee to fly from your boat, as well as a polo shirt indicating your status as Vice Commodore of the SICYC representing wherever you’d like it to be provided it’s not already taken. Go have a look at www.sicyc.org and join up! (go on - do it now!)
The other thing we do, that we’d encourage others to join is skipr.net where you can plot your latest position and find out who else is nearby. There’s even an iPhone app to make it easier and faster to log your position at the end of the day and pop a small comment on. Go have a look at our track for an example. It only takes a few moments to set yourself up. Again - don’t procrastinate - do it now - it will open in a new window so nothing to loose!
We were introduced to both of these by cruising friends, and it has been fun being part of these.
While we have been here we’ve caught up with Russ and Amelia Schedlich and his family, as well as our good friend Yvette Knox who came down for lunch. We also bumped into a long-time sailing friends Stuart and Ann Williams who own Seaquell the first Seawind 1000 XL. Craig learned much of his sailing knowledge racing on Port Philip Bay in their S80 monohull also called Seaquell many years ago - and it was lovely to catch up with them and renew the friendship.
We have also met several new friends on Seawinds while we are here, including John and Maria Dyne who have just taken delivery of their brand new Seawind 1000 XL2 called La Marionette.
We will update this page during our stay in Sydney if we’re not too lazy!
Till next entry...
